Incredible First Week of Tour...Evacuation Included!

Writer: richardbladerichardblade

I'm so excited to share my first-ever national tour experience with you! I'm hitting the road with ABC and the legendary Howard Jones, and it's been an absolute dream come true. Connecting with 80s music fans every night is the icing on the cake. The first week was full of surprises, to say the least – I had no idea it would end with an evacuation! Join me as I recap each day of the tour so far. And if you've snapped any pics at the shows, please share them on Facebook or Instagram and tag me – I can't wait to see them! I'd love to meet you on the road! The shows are incredible, and my meet-and-greets are free (just make sure to arrive when doors open so we have time for a photo, a quick hello, or an autograph).

Night #1 - Opening Night - San Francisco February 6, 2025

Quite simply, a fantastic evening and a brilliant opening to the tour. Both my sets were so much fun and the audience - wow!!! The first Meet & Greet of the tour was crazy. Incredible crowd who were so pumped for the night. So lovely meeting everyone.

Night #2 Agua Caliente - February 7. 2025

Night #2 of the Howard Jones Martin Fry ABC Richard Blade tour was, again, fantastic. Agua Caliente is a great venue and was, like night #1, sold out. The early meet & greet was packed, and I was able to work in videos with my set, so much fun. And I my wife, Krista came to the show!

Night #3 - House of Blues - Anaheim, Ca. February 8, 2025

The House of Blues in Anaheim was one for the record books (and for my sequel to WIME!). The House of Blues Anaheim was completely sold out for night # 3 of the Howard Jones, Martin Fry ABC, Richard Blade tour, and my free meet and greet at six had a line stretching back to the door. Inside the HOB, it was jam packed for my first set at 7pm. I had it all planned out, and for my second set, at 9pm, I was going to bring out Swedish Egil for the OC crowd. But there's an old saying, "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him you've made a plan." Last night, God roared with laughter.

Just as ABC finished their brilliant performance with their encore of "Look of Love", I told the stage tech to lower the screen, but he looked at me and said "We're being evacuated." I couldn't believe it but the entire Gardenwalk complex was being cleared - the restaurants, cinemas and the HOB, due to a major gas leak. All the streets around were closed and dozens of police cars and firetrucks surrounded the sprawling building.

Everyone inside was led out to safety and asked to wait in a marshalling area until the problem was located and fixed. We were there for over an hour before getting the all clear. During that time I was able to do a second impromtu meet and greet and take photos with the massive crowd.

Sadly, when we returned to the HOB it was too late to continue with the show, so I couldn't do my second set, bring Egil out, and then watch Hojo do his thing and rock the crowd. But it was unforgettable.

Update: Here is a video message from Howard Jones himself about the whole situation. Click here to see the video on his FB Reel.
